Yo soy betty la fea

For me, it has been very interesting to watch this telenovela because there are so many countries with there own version of it, and it is interesting for me to watch the Colombian version. It somewhat follows the Cinderella story line, that despite being recreated so many times, never ceases to fail in capturing the audiences' attention including my own. Betty is a girl who has not been blessed with the best of looks, and even though she is so smart, she has a difficult time getting a job because of her looks. She finally applies for a job in the fashion industry, but she does not attach a photo of herself which allows her to get an interview. Betty quickly falls for the handsome Armando even though he is engaged. Armando hires Betty as one of his secretaries, and Betty is willing to do anything for him. However, Betty refuses to tell anyone, not even Armando, about her love for Armando. This show keeps me watching because I anxiously await finding out whether or not Betty will end up with Armando, and I am excited to see her beauty transformation.

  2. The story of Ugly Betty or Betty La Fea must be a great one because it has achieved so much success in so many countries. Yet, I feel like the story supports exterior beauty too much. The fact that the happy ending for this telenovela is Betty's beauty transformation, puts too much importance on how a person looks rather than who they are inside.

I have not watched the story. I think the plot may also show however, that the man falls in love with Betty, even while she is "ugly." So on one hand, the story does try to teach the importance of seeing inner beauty, but on the other hand, the story still ends up making Betty look pretty so the viewers can be happy as well.

    1. just felt like replying you sir,i feel you're quite wrong to say the show focused alot on exterior beauty.. when betty went thought the transformation,it was almost like a self cleansing act ..for her to be more confident etc.. if the main lead,Armando was shown to have fallen in love with Betty after she became beautiful, then of course can be said that exterior beauty is highlighted, but in the story,Armando falls when she is ugly..He falls for the beautiful person inside...which is why when she came back after transformation,he wasnt absolutely shocked like others..

  3. From the discussions in class about the different versions of the "Ugly Betty" telenovelas it's interesting to read this post and the plot summaries of other versions that I researched and to see the descriptive differences between them. I agree with Ravi on how the story over characterizes beauty as the most important aspect in these different cultures. I do admit that outer appearance matters, but not to the point where it overrides intelligence and personality. I've watched the American version of Ugly Betty, but now that I know about the abundance of other cultural versions of the show I do plan on watching a few of those as well.
